FLETCHER
WITH MCGEE
LOSING HIS DAUGHTER
History: Emerson Fletcher was once a respected science journalist and a kind-hearted family man. He had a wife and a daughter that he loved more than anything in the world and his life was paradise. However, his life took a bad turn when his eight year old daughter was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Fletcher volunteered her for a new treatment against the illness. At first, Lisa Fletcher seemed to be improving, but then, her health quickly deteriorated until one day, she passed away in Fletcher's arms.
Once Lisa died, Fletcher's life completely crumbled. His wife committed suicide and he started becoming irresponsible and rebellious and was fired from the Journal of American Science. He tried applying for a job at the Daily Bugle, and even though he did make an impression on Robbie Robertson, J. Jonah Jameson rejected him, not being interested at all in science.
Eventually, he was hired by the National Register. Once, while he was working, he answered a call addressed to Jack McGee. Pretending to be McGee, Fletcher flew to Atlanta, Georgia, to talk to a lady who had seen the Hulk. It was then that he saw someone who was thought dead for a long time - Dr. David Banner.
Fletcher went to Banner in order to do an interview. He said that he was with the Journal of American Science and convinced David to do the interview. During the interview, David revealed a lot of the suffering he went through in his life, and this reminded Fletcher of the most horrible moment of his life - the loss of Lisa.
Fletcher decided to give it all up and level with David by telling him that he was working for the National Register. David was upset about this, and decided to keep the tapes that Fletcher recorded. Fletcher didn't stop him and helped David to escape when McGee tried to break into his apartment.
Nowadays, Fletcher still works at the Register, but he hates it due to all the dishonesty in there. He still wishes the Bugle had taken him in.
