A rather odd fellow, Ernie is pretty much Dave as an adult: a prankster, wisecracker and with a quite a lot of screws loose.
With his son Dave, this screwball can really be a wisecracking force to be reckoned with. Both have easily made Flash Thompson run back to his house with fright.
