History: Since he was a child, Phil "Cheese" Coulson was obsessed with superheroes. As he grew up, he would constantly study and keep track of them, having created his own database of super humans for fun. A Ranger in Vietnam, Coulson battled alongside his friend Marcus Johnson, and faced fear when the Serpent took over Earth.
When Johnson's mother was killed, he returned to the US to be with his friend. But Johnson was the target of Orion to use his blood to regain his immortality, revealing Johnson as the son of Nick Fury. Coulson helped his friend in destroying Leviathan, and was made an Agent of SHIELD alongside him. He later joined SHIELD's Secret Avengers initiative, and was responsible for the recruitment of its first members.
Months after joining SHIELD, Coulson became their supreme commander for Special Ops. In one of the team's first big missions, he faced off against Dormammu to prevent humankind from turning into Mindless Ones. He subsequently freed Doctor Strange from Dormammu's imprisonment, after Strange had helped Coulson put together the pieces in order to find out about Dormammu's secret mission.
Equipment: Pistol, Lola (Low-Orbit Liftoff Automobile)
Lola is a red 1962 Chevrolet Corvette belonging to Coulson. It has been converted using advanced Stark Industries technology to become a SHIELD Flying Car. Lola is named after Coulson's deceased girlfriend Lola Daniels.

Abilities: SHIELD training consisting of firearms/explosives, espionage, intelligence gathering, and hand-to-hand combat. Phil is fluent in Spanish.
Weaknesses: Mortal.
Trivia:
-He calls Fury "CHARLTON HESTON!!! THE GREATEST ACTOR!!!" at times. The reason for that is still unclear.
-The only thing that pisses Coulson off is when anyone touches Lola.
