X-23:
Wolverine:
History: The organization known only as the Facility attempts to recreate Weapon X. With all their attempts ending up failures, they turn to hiring renowned geneticist Sarah Kinney, who says she can give them what they want through cloning. However Sarah's attempts hit a wall when she realizes the genome they recovered from Wolverine is heavily damaged, making a pure clone little more than a pipe dream. Sarah then decides to cut corners by duplicating the X chromosome, but the Facility denies her request, stating that changing the gender of Weapon X may change the abilities of the weapon itself.
In an act of defiance Sarah goes behind their backs and ends up creating a viable specimen on the twenty third attempt. While her employers are outraged, Sarah has put them in a difficult position and they reluctantly concede. However, Zander Rice, who hates Wolverine for murdering his father in Weapon X, forces Sarah to carry X-23 to term. Nine months later, X-23 is born. At the age of seven, X-23 is trained in martial arts, conditioned to a Trigger Scent, and exposed to abuse in order to strip of her of any humanity and sense of self. Sarah is under orders not to treat her like a child, though she reads Pinocchio to X in secret. In an attempt to activate her mutation, Rice suggests using radiation. It works, but also nearly kills X-23, and from there they go on to lace her claws with adamantium, which Rice performs without anesthesia. X-23's skills are sold to the highest bidder and she becomes one of the world's most sought after assassins by the age of 11.
During one mission Rice goes with X-23, only to leave for her for dead, though she survives. Sometime later, Sarah's niece Megan is kidnapped by a child molester, and she uses X-23 to rescue her, but it earns her the ire of her employers. In an attempt to seize control of the Facility, Rice has X-23 murder his employer Martin Sutter and his family. X kills Sutter and his wife, but spares his son Henry. When Sarah goes to see X-23 after Sutter's death, X-23 shows Sarah a photograph of Sutter and his family, and Sarah realizes what Rice has done. Sarah then decides to free X-23, but before she does, Rice shows her X-24 through X-50, and Sarah is horrified at the sight. Sarah then gives X-23 orders to destroy the clones and the Facility, which X-23 succeeds in doing, but Sarah is killed by X-23 in the escape. Rice had laced her with the Trigger Scent as one more attempt to torment X-23. As Sarah lies dying, she gives X-23 the name Laura, tells her she's her mother, and that she loves her. Laura lies with her mother in the snow, begging her not to leave her.
Sometime after the events of Innocence Lost, Laura is captured by Captain America and is interrogated by him along with Matt Murdock. They are looking for answers as to who she is. Laura begins by recounting what happened after her mother's death. Laura tries to get further away from the Facility but gets cut off by her handler Kimura. Using an avalanche Laura manages to escape and finds her way to San Francisco where she meets Debbie and Megan Kinney, her aunt and cousin on her mother's side. She introduces herself as Sarah's daughter and moves in with them. However her time with them is short lived as Debbie's boyfriend, Desmond Alexander, turns out to be a Facility agent. After accidentally getting some trigger scent on himself, Laura kills him but it's also on Megan and Debbie though they manage to get it off and Laura doesn't kill them. But things go from bad to worse when Kimura shows up to kill Debbie and Megan and take Laura back. She snaps Laura's neck, handcuffs her to herself, and takes her to watch her kill Megan and Debbie. Using some quick thinking, Laura cuts her hand off and cuffs Kimura to a water pipe. She then cuts a gas pipe open and ignites it with a broken light bulb, though this does not kill Kimura.
Laura later learns from Debbie that Sarah had told her about Laura before her death, but what struck Debbie was that Sarah showed a side of herself that she was sure their father had stolen from her. Debbie then recounts that for the longest time Sarah never loved anyone, not even herself, but Laura managed to bring that back and save Sarah. After making fake IDs Laura tearfully parts ways with Megan and Debbie but not before leaving with a locket with her mother's picture in it given to her by Megan. Laura then tracks down Wolverine to confront and kill him and herself. Laura manages to beat Logan but he talks her out of killing herself. Logan tells her he knows what happened to Laura, thanks to a copy of Sarah's letter he received from Sarah.
Logan then offers to help Laura start over, but she is captured by Captain America and S.H.I.E.L.D. After Laura finishes telling her story Matt tells Steve that she should be sent back to Wolverine, though Steve says she must face justice. Matt goes on to say that Laura is as much a victim as the people she's killed and that if Steve turns her over to S.H.I.E.L.D. they'll just use her like a weapon like the Facility did. In the end Steve lets Laura go and tells her to go to Logan.
Later she becomes a teenage prostitute that specializes in cutting masochistic patrons in the employ of the pimp Zebra Daddy. She is found by Kiden Nixon and her teacher Cameron at the scene of her client having committed suicide. When Zebra Daddy learns of the clients death he assumes that Laura killed him and puts out a hit on her. After adding Tatiana Caban and Bobby Soul to the group, Zebra Daddy and his thugs manage to track them down. When Zebra attempts to kill her friends Laura kills him, and they escape.
Adrift again, X-23 finds work in a nightclub in Mutant Town, and soon establishes a friendship with Jade Parisi, the daughter of a mob boss. She defends her new friend when she is being harassed by a group of thugs, ultimately killing them. This draws the attention of the X-Men, as the similarity of her powers to Wolverine's makes the murders appear to be his doing. They locate and confront her, and she reacts violently to the presence of Wolverine, physically attacking him. She is eventually calmed, and aids the X-Men in locating Parisi, who was in hiding, as well as in defeating one of Don Parisi's enforcers. She flees, but later returns to aid the X-Men in rescuing victims of a car accident, and is soon enrolled at the Xavier Institute. There, she develops extremely protective feelings towards Wolverine.
During a time when Wolverine was thought dead Laura took up the mantle in tribute to her Father. Though she has relinquished it, Logan has told her that she has proven to be his equal, and can use the name and suit. Depending on her modd these days Laura sometimes still suits up. Often treating it as her getting serious or going on a personal mission.
Equipment: Adamantium Claws: X-23's claws have been coated with the nigh-indestructible metal Adamantium. As a result, her claws are virtually unbreakable and are capable of cutting almost any substance, with the exceptions of Adamantium itself and Captain America's shield. Her ability to slice completely through a substance depends upon the amount of force she can exert and the thickness of the substance. Also, since the bones of her hands and wrists are not laced with Adamantium, it is likely that the reverberation of her claws could conceivably break her hands with significant force. Unlike Wolverine, the presence of Adamantium in her body is not sufficient enough to interfere with her bones' normal function of generating blood corpuscles, although it is as possible that some degree of her immune system is distracted by the presence of the foreign substance. Her claws can cut through the Hulk's skin and eyes.
Powers: As a clone of Wolverine, X-23 possesses most of his mutant powers.
Superhumanly Acute Senses: X-23 possesses superhumanly acute senses that are comparable to those of certain animals. She is capable of seeing at much greater distances, and with perfect clarity, than an ordinary human. She retains this same level of clarity in near-total darkness. Her sense of hearing is enhanced in a similar manner, allowing her to both hear sounds that ordinary human's can't and to hear sounds that ordinary humans can, but at much greater distances. X-23 is able to use her highly developed sense of smell to track targets by scent with an impressive degree of success, even if the scent has been eroded by natural factors, such as the weather.
Bone Claws: X-23's skeleton includes two retractable bone claws in each arm and one in each foot that she can extend and retract at will. These claws are housed beneath the skin and muscle. Unsheathing them causes her skin to tear and bleed, but the wounds are quickly dealt with by her healing factor. X-23 can unsheathe any number of these claws at once, although she must keep her wrists and/or feet straight at the moment the claws emerge. The claws are naturally sharp and tougher than normal human bone, allowing X-23 to cut through most types of flesh and natural materials. (Only here should something happen to her Adamantium ones)
Regenerative Healing Factor: Like Wolverine, X-23's primary mutant power is an accelerated healing factor that enables her to regenerate damaged or destroyed tissue with far greater speed and efficiency than an ordinary human. She is capable of fully healing injuries resulting in massive tissue damage and blood loss such as multiple bullet wounds, slash wounds, and puncture wounds within a matter of minutes. Her healing factor is developed to such a degree, she is capable of reattaching severed limbs, such as a hand. She has also proven capable of regrowing an entire arm on her own. Her healing factor may fluctuate with her psychological state as battle wounds tend to heal very quickly, but her self inflicted cuts appear to remain visible for some time.
Foreign Chemical Immunity: X-23's natural healing also affords her the virtual immunity to poisons and most drugs. She can be affected by some drugs, such as tranquilizers, if she is exposed to a massive dose.
Disease Immunity: Due to her highly efficient immune system, X-23 is immune to all Earthly diseases and infections.
Superhuman Stamina: X-23's muscles produce considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the muscles of an ordinary human. She can exert herself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to impair her.
Superhuman Agility: X-23's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete.
Superhuman Reflexes: X-23's reflexes are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. In at least one case she reacts to and slices in half with her claws a bullet fired at her face from nearly point-blank range.
Superhuman Durability: She was capable of fighting the Hulk without sustaining any severe injuries and surviving energy blasts from Sentinels.
Longevity: Presumably, because X-23 is a clone of the mutant Wolverine, her healing factor will also provide her with an extended lifespan by slowing the effects of the aging process.
Peak Human Strength: Because of her healing factor, X-23 can push her muscles, joints, and ligaments to levels beyond the natural limits of a woman of her height, weight, and build without sustaining injury. Unlike Wolverine, her skeleton isn't laced with Adamantium. While her skeleton, much like her musculature, can withstand greater pressures than a normal human skeleton, she can only withstand so much weight and pressure without sustaining fractures. While not superhuman, she is as physically strong as an ordinary human can be and can lift about 800 lbs.
Induced Berserker Rage: She has also been subjected to conditioning in which a specific "trigger scent" has been used to send her into a berserker rage, killing anything in sight.[
Skill: Expert Covert Ops Training: Raised in captivity, due to her extensive training as a top-secret operative, X-23 has been trained to become a living weapon. She is highly trained in the use of long range weapons and explosives, and is an expert in assassination techniques.
Expert Tracker: Due to her enhanced sense of smell, Laura is a dangerous tracker and has memorized many different scents.
Master Martial Artist: She is a master in hand to hand combatant, with intensive training in numerous armed and unarmed martial arts techniques during her time in the facility.
Master Acrobat: She is an Olympic class athlete, gymnast, acrobat and aerialist capable of numerous complex maneuvers and feats.
Multilingual: Laura can speak fluent English, French, and Japanese. She might be able to speak other languages.
Gifted Intellect: She possesses the ability to quickly process multiple information streams (e.g., threat assessment) and rapidly respond to changing tactical situations.
Weaknesses: Laura is still emotionally naive and in some aspect very child like. Her project developed a specific trigger scent that can put her in a berzerker state. In this she can overpower Wolverine if he slips for a single second.
