History: Lyja was a Skrull selected to infiltrate and destroy the Fantastic Four, as assigned by Paibok The Power Skrull. The plan involved secretly replacing the real Alicia Masters, The Thing's blind lover, and taking her place. Lyja's Skrull teammates kidnapped Alicia when the Fantastic Four where on a mission during the events of the Secret Wars. The plan seemingly failed however when Lyja found out that the Thing had not returned from the team's mission. The plan nevertheless fell through as she instead seduced Human Torch in hopes of staying close to the team. The two eventually married one another. The long running facade eventually came to light and the group discovered that the real, human Alicia was actually being held captive by the Skrull nation. Lyja tried to explain to the Fantastic Four that she started out as a spy, but eventually started having real feelings for Johnny and the rest of the team. The Fantastic Four where however shocked and planned a rescue for the real Alicia. Lyja helped the team but seemingly died in the process as she sacrificed herself to save Johnny when Paibok attacked.
It was revealed that Paibok recovered her and revealed to Devos the Devastator that she was still alive. Paibok, with the assistance of Devos, awoke Lyja from her comatose state, also bestowing her with the power to fly and fire energy blasts from her hands (becoming "Lyja the Lazerfist" . These powers were later revealed to come from a special device implanted into her. Joining them in search of vengeance, the three arrived on Earth, and isolated and battled the Torch at Empire State University. Panicking, the Torch burst into his Nova Flame and destroyed the campus. Alongside Devos and Paibok, Lyja witnessed a battle between the Fantastic Four and an alternate Fantastic Four. However, Lyja still bore feelings for the Torch and once again betrayed her cohorts to side with the Fantastic Four.
Lyja then first encountered Uatu the Watcher, and aided the Fantastic Four against Doctor Doom. Alongside the Fantastic Four, Lyja battled Devos, Paibok, Klaw, and Huntara. Lyja impersonated Bridget O'Neil, and became jealous on discovering Johnny Storm's affection for Bridget. After returning to the Fantasic Four and Johnny, Lyja claimed she was pregnant with Johnny's child. Over time, Lyja and Johnny began to grow close again. When Lyja delivered the child (an egg ). It hatched, revealing a young boy...but as the days passed, it began to show signs of aging fast.
Reed examined it and revealed that not only was it a mutant, it was a modified bio weapon. It would age and grow in power until it was able to turn on and kill the Four. Lyja took the boy and ran to Titan, knowing Alars, Mentor, would have the means of helping. The child was stabilized, but now they were targeted by the Empire as traitors. They ran for some time before joining S'Byll, who took them under her wing. Lyja has yet to contact Johnny much.
Equipment: Skrull-Military Uniform: Lyja wears a Skrull-military uniform, which alters as she changes shape and size.
Skrull-Military Transport: Lyja will frequently use the advanced warp-drive starships of the Skrull-military.
Skrull-Military Weaponry: Lyja will frequently use the ranged energy-weaponry of the Skrull-military.
Powers: Skrull Shape-Shifting: Like other Skrulls, Lyja is a shape-shifter. She can mentally cause the unstable molecules that comprise her body to become pliant, enabling her to assume other forms through muscular expansion and contraction. Once a new shape has been assumed, it takes a conscious act of will to assume another form or revert to natural. Hence, Skrulls do not spontaneously lose their assumed form when asleep or unconscious. Skrulls in altered form will, however, revert to their original forms at the moment of death. She was specifically trained to impersonate Alicia Masters, and thus can walk around while 'blind' due to special contact lenses she wore in human form.
Energy Beam: Lyja was artificially endowed with the ability to fire blasts of energy from her fists that she could use to cause damage as well as propel herself through the air.
Heat resistance: During the events of Secret Invasion, she also displayed tremendous resistances to the intense heat and flames of the Human Torch.
Abilities: Skrull Military Training: Lyja is a trained Skrull soldier.
Aviation: Lyja is trained in the use of the advanced warp-drive starships of the Skrull-military.
Unarmed Combat: Lyja is trained in the unarmed combat of the Skrull-military, she is also quite experienced; due to her involvement in the Kree-Skrull War.
Marksmanship: Lyja is trained in the use of the ranged energy-weaponry of the Skrull-military.
Lyja has some training in art that she utilized while impersonating Alicia, although Lyja's artistic style favoured otherworldly abstractionist pieces as opposed to Alicia's usual representational work.
Weaknesses: Skrull Shape-Shifting: Skrulls only take on the appearance of an object or person and none of that object or person’s characteristics. There is a limit to the size of the object or person a Skrull can imitate. The average Skrull cannot distend his or her mass any more than 1.5 times as large a volume as his or her original volume, nor can he or she contract his or her mass any more than 0.75 a volume as his or her original.
