Image/Appearance:
History: Basil Elks was originally a small time crook. One day he broke into a museum and was about to steal an emerald. Little did he know the emerald came from an alien world and possessed power. When he was about to grab it, the guards at the museum shot at Elks but missed. Instead the guard's bullets hit the emerald and all of a sudden this turns Elks into a powerful reptilian being. He attacks the guards and later decides to start a new life as a super villains and begins to call himself the Basilisk.
Basilisk would occasionally come into conflicts with Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and the Fantastic Four. However his career as a villain was some-what short lived as the masked anti-hero Scourge shot Basilisk and instantly killed him.
Arnim Zola created numerous proto-husks from DNA samples of deceased heroes and villains including Basilisk whom he called his Corpse Corps. These resurrected husks would secure riches to fund his genetic experiments but come into conflict with Deadpool after Animus steals some files from him. The merc with a mouth kills Basilisk by placing two hand grenades in his eye sockets and tells him "Grenades...gets the red out". Deadpool destroys most of the proto-husks and defeats
Years later Basilisk would be brought back from the grave with other villains killed by Scourge by the Hood. The Hood then tells Basilisk and the other villains the the Punisher was Scourge all along and waned the villains to kill him. Basilisk wanted to kill Punisher on his own terms and him and Death Adder walk out of the group to kill the Punisher themselves. Later finding out Hood lied, he bailed on the plan and struck out on his own.
Equipment: The Alpha and Omega Stones.
Powers: The Alpha-Stone transformed the Basilisk, granting him the following Phyiscal Powers:
Peak Human Strength: The Basilisk's physical strength is enhanced to the peak of human potential, meaning he is above stronger than normal humans. While he wasn't superhuman, he could lift up to 800 lbs.
Superhuman Stamina: The Basilisk's enhanced musculature generated less fatigue toxins than the musculature of an ordinary human. He could exert himself physically at peak capacity for several hours before fatigue affected him.
Superhuman Durability: The tissues of the Basilisk's body, particularly his lizard-like skin, is harder and more resistant to physical injury than an ordinary human. His body was durable enough to allow him to wade through lava, which he enjoyed doing often, without sustaining any physical injury.
Enhanced Intelligence: Basil has become more cunning, able to solve problems quicker. He can also speak, read and understand Kree.
His major power was the ability to generate microwaves, and to accelerate or decelerate molecular motion with his gaze. This gives him heat vision, cold vision, and the ability to fly by super-heating ambient air and using the raw force of his eye beams to propel himself.
The Omega-Stone later increased his power, refined his flight abilities (he no longer required constant eye beams to repel himself from the ground) and gave him psionic abilities, such as the telekinetic control of tectonic activity and teleportation abilities sufficient to span the distance from New York to the Antarctic.
The Basilisk’s abilities are vast, and he’s intelligent enough to use them to a good proportion of their potential. After being exposed to the Omega Stone, he gain a few powers that he rarely uses. A Vampiric life draining touch power, and Matter Manipulation, warping the object caught in his beams in a manner like the Sleepwalkers warp beam. But this can only affect minerals and requires concentration. It is no easily done.
A note about Basilisk’s cold vision. The Basilisk does not seem able to generate huge quantities of ice, and the ice he generates is not supercooled enough to kill even an unprotected average human (death through lack of air is more likely). However, he’s been able to slow down the Thing himself for a bit by encasing him in ice.
Abilities: Basil is a skilled thief and has above average combat skills.
Weaknesses: Basil's powers are line of sight. If he is not looking at you, he cannot affect you.
Trivia:
- Basil is afraid of the Kree. He does not want them to take his power.
- He trusts no window washers.
- Basil wants the Fantastic Four dead even more now.
